Aug. 7th, 2005 06:14 pmAfter finding out I generally stay away from caffeine,
magid wondered what I was like on it. Well, actually, you'd never tell I was. As a good Dutchman I grew up drinking massive quantities of the stuff through tea, although I wasn't a proper Dutchman and never learned to drink coffee. (I joke this is one of the reasons they threw me out of the country. My compatriots sure do love their mugs of strong black coffee twenty times a day.) These days I drink mostly green tea, even when iced in summer, and it is decaf.
I like a cup of dark tea after a dinner, sometimes some Cola. No personality change.
Caffeine loses most of its 'upper' qualities after two weeks of continual exposure to it, but the addictive qualities of getting headaches during withdrawal get worse after that time. I stay off caffeine so I can use it to stay awake when I travel. Because I have so little of it, I am sensitive to that effect, so I can use it when I need it.
And when I don't need it. Like last night. Had a bar of Valrhona, 70% strength. Couldn't sleep until 6 AM. Sucky, but it was a weekend. I got a trip to Research Mothership in Helsinki coming up mid-September, and I am going to be packing 3 of these. See if I can get one melted by microwave in the kitchen hotel every morning. Add some milk, drink it, and stay awake all day.
