I went to the Getty Villa in Malibu in the back of a convertible. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] foodpoisoningsf and [livejournal.com profile] e_ticket. You keep inviting me to events and introducing me to your friends and it ends up making me feel I belong. The sun even seems to have bleached out my hair just a little more, so it has become a little less high-maintenance (less need to rinse with blue shampoo). My only regret of that day is that the sun and the art made me so tired I missed most of the scenic route back while napping as [livejournal.com profile] fidgetcub drove. He forgave me. Then we went and had gourmet ice cream, like brie & pear (didn't taste a thing like either) and psitachio & figs.

Lunch Sunday in a back yard in Bel Air, where the sky was blue and a lovely breeze kept teasing. Drove through West Hollywood and Hollywood to pick up cat food as [livejournal.com profile] timfogartyfeed found a place there that actually stocks the carb-free cat food that keeps both my felines in fighting shape -- I vowed that this boy will not have his pancreas blown out by carbs in his dry food. Now that I am a little more comfortable driving around in LA I can take some attention to look at the signs on shops, and thus found the automatic car-wash. My first time in an automatic car-wash. (Note to [livejournal.com profile] vasilatos: waaaay to short. I don't know how this could be fun on LSD unless you went multiple times. I think the attendant would have caught on by then, but not minded. Your car would end up spotless, though.)

Ended the weekend with a spot of DIY: hanging the last curtain panel, attaching some lights to my clothes closet so I can see inside when the window curtains are drawn.

There's definitely a place for me here in LA. I just need to survive this bout of home improvement I seem to be going through...

ROFLMAO. Seriously, you're ruining my TV-watching because I can't stop laughing.

Well YUH! For those singing along, in the 70s we thought it was a gas to get all tripping on LSD and then drive through car washes. And time slows down, FJ!!, so it turns into an entire equivalent of a trip across the globe. Woo. Thanks for the reminder. That was an absolute blast.

I am trying to comprehend the concept of a "bout" of home improvement, as opposed to the "condition" of home improvement.

I keep hoping it will go away by itself. Only 4 projects left!

You have a new space so it's possible. House and yard? Never. Ernie's already planning the gut and redo of the original bathroom.

Yes, but also, I run into how much projects is justified for the space. Sure I could do a deconstructed W-style bedroom / bathroom with semi-transparent glass block to get more light, and a custom red resin tub, but even if I wanted to afford it, the reality is that the people who look for that kind of architectural excitement don't want it on the 4th floor of a 12-floor building. I'd be over-producing the space for its location.

I learned this in the Fenway where everyone who loved our modernist features never even bid but wanted their own space for their own moments, and the guy who bought our modest space just wanted for the standard family life the bones were built for. He grimaced when he saw our low-voltage lights and asked Dean directly if he could get a normal fixture in this room.

Tell me you didn't run the convertible through the car-wash while the wind (and soap suds) blew through your hair.

I think the owner of the convertible would not have liked that.

Would have made for an awesome phone-cam video, though! :)

Great to have you along, handsome :)

Yes, Evo. Seems to be no other.
