I just read some stuff about the changes in the AT&T plans for the iPhone last night, that have me reconsidering the situation. I think Apple really should have released the phone unlocked and available to any network, because AT&T is screwing them. The iPhone data plan price is going up $10, on top of the voice plan, for a total of $60. And I think I read that doesn't even include text messages, which may add another $20? And they've removed the ability to activate the phone from home via iTunes on your computer - people are going to have to activate them in stores now, to force them to get AT&T contracts.

That price plan is just way too expensive for me, given my amount of use. For two years I've been paying $50/month on T-Mobile for voice + texting + data, with taxes it comes to about $60/month. And I'm not using anywhere near the amount of minutes and messages I'm paying for - I'm probably going to drop back to a lower minutes plan that costs $10 less. No way will I change to AT&T at their rates. Which makes me wonder if I really should bother buying my friends current (unlocked/jailbroken) iPhone. I mainly want it for the ease of the interface. I'd be bummed to get all used to it and then lose it in the future if the price plans stay too expensive.
