Literal greening: British Gas sent me 4 free energy efficient light bulbs that make everything look green and sick.

Well Sir once you regain that british tan, instead of that sickly california brown skin, it may actually make things look good :)

With the SPF30 I slapped on every day there wasn't much tan to lose. And it was more like, the white walls looked sick. It made me nauseous.

Free, and worth every penny. And you'll pay for them in rates anyway.

Which is why I went to uswitch.co.uk, plugged in my numbers, and switched to the best offer the site found for me: Scottish Electric for both gas & electricity, a projected £180 reduction. Energy is deregulated here akin to landline phones in the US: fixed network administered by suppliers. It does lead to the ridiculous instances that the national registry does not know which meter belongs to who and suppliers get confused, something O have been dealing with for 6 months now.

Perhaps it was intentional, to plant the seed that energy conservation leads to inferior quality of life :)

I stayed at the W hotel on Lexington Avenue in New York last night. The W chain has always valued form over function, and this one was no exception. The desk lamp was a new-fangled affair that consisted of a long transparent tube containing a row of LEDs; very chic, very green, and ALMOST functional. For some reason, rather than the garden-variety blue-white LEDs, these little guys glowed greenish-white. The effect was ghastly.

And don't even get me started on the big LCD TV that only received analog channels, or the progressive-scan DVD player with RGB connections that was hooked up via composite video...
