I stayed at the W hotel on Lexington Avenue in New York last night. The W chain has always valued form over function, and this one was no exception. The desk lamp was a new-fangled affair that consisted of a long transparent tube containing a row of LEDs; very chic, very green, and ALMOST functional. For some reason, rather than the garden-variety blue-white LEDs, these little guys glowed greenish-white. The effect was ghastly.
And don't even get me started on the big LCD TV that only received analog channels, or the progressive-scan DVD player with RGB connections that was hooked up via composite video...
