I've seen a recommendation, too, to email LJ admin to declare your participation in the strike and your personal reasons for doing so. I think it's a worthwhile suggestion. With millions of active users and over 100K posts/day, it's hard to say how noticeable a dent a 24-hour strike will make. But if most strikers send an email, it's likely to be noticed.
