I decided to take the 10.50 AM to London tomorrow. I think converting today´s and Monday´s trips into vouchers to use on later dates would be too much trouble.

Meanwhile, I am wondering if I am ready for wedding cake, and everything that comes with it, every month again for a year. Eh, I am too far this time. (But I am sure two people in Santa Monica are pulling corsets out of a closet right now. Again.)

I still beleive same-sex couples getting married is an inherently subversive act. I fully agree with conservative people´s fears it will change the insitution, and I rejoice because I so hope it does. And every one of you who steps forward together to declare your love in public, before and inside the fabric of the law, I wish you a long string of the most beautiful days of your lives.

And for gawds sakes, invest in some Damn Good Cake.

To the day I die, cake-withholder.

Even if it would be some kind of folkie-skirt-wearing Al-Gore-loving Soy-Coren hippie cake.

. . . and I don't particularly like cake, either. So we're even.

We don't do soy. We did just have a fancy meal at Radius to celebrate Robert's birthday.

There's nothing that says you can't show up on their doorstep with Really Good Cake and celebrate their anniversary.

And none of that icky barely-edible fondant that's all-the-rage these days in place of good old fashioned icing or frosting. Fondant makes for some photogenic fairy tale cakes but tastes like sugary wallpaper paste.

Despite being a married hetero suburban mommie, I could not agree with you more. Here's to change!

The largest expense at our wedding was the cake. It was worth it.

We didn't have any cake, just a nice dinner at Pizzeria Castello for ourselves and our witnesses and guests Sadly the restaurant is demolished now, in the great big building site around the corner from The Well. We miss it, and never get around to going to their new location on Jamaica Road in Bermondsey. I probably had Tiramisu.

Have you ever had English wedding cake? It's basically fruitcake with marzipan icing. Instant diabetic coma.

Our friend married an Englishman and his family brought the groom's cake with them when they came over for the wedding. When Simon fed Sarah a piece, she had no idea what she was in for and she choked.

It was really good (in a very small dose!) and I love marzipan.

I have never found a wedding cake I liked anywhere close to as much as ours. Half the layers were chocolate mousse cake, the others were white cake with strawberries and Grand Marnier between the layers. The whole thing was frosted with whipped cream and covered with white chocolate flakes, then decorated with real flowers. We bought cake for several hundred and around 100 showed up. We sent people home with cake and our families had cake all the time for a week.

When people talk about our wedding, that's the main thing they remember. Because that was some AWESOME cake.

The bakery where we bought it was closed by our first anniversary, but a couple years ago we found a dead ringer for the chocolate mousse cake at Caesar's in Tijuana - the only difference was the frosting. How funny is that?
