Talked over the phone to a nice Immigration lawyer at the US desk of a London practice. Basically, I need to continue filing taxes, travel with proof of continuing ties to the US, and file a re-entry permit next time I am in the US. Just filing taxes, going every year, and traveling with a copy of recent mortgage and bank statements to show when questioned at the border is pushing my luck, the permit should be filed. It has to be filed while I am in the US. It will take around a year to approve, but I do not have to wait inside the US while it is.

I was gripped with old anxiety again, the one from lying awake at night worrying about this shit. It left.

It's a good excuse for you to visit the Bay Area. Both Randy and I would love to see your smiling face again. :)

Glad to hear that it worked out. Was it Wesley Gryk's practice?

No, they do not have a US desk. They sent me on to someone else.

Could you share the name and contact details with me? I'm contemplating renouncing my US citizenship and I would guess that this firm might be able to give me some advice about that. I'm at the gym this evening if you don't want to advertise publicly, or PVT_EMAIL chrishansenhome at btinternet dot com .
