If McCain really was a maverick, he would have asked Hillary to run with him. You know she would have considered it.

She'd totally do it. At his age, there's a real good chance she'd either be sworn in, or at least become 'acting president' as he convalesces.

I think he really is a maverick. Suspending his campaign, knocking a day off the convention, picking a running mate that was on nobody's short list after only meeting her once: these are all highly unorthodox moves. But a running mate isn't fully his decision to make; he needs to make a choice that will be affirmed by a majority of Republican convention delegates. Hillary Clinton? Heh, he came to be convinced that not even Joe Lieberman would have cleared that hurdle; that was almost certainly McCain's preference and would have helped both his maverick cred and the "inexperience" argument that he had been hammering throughout the summer).

Nope, no way.
The only thing conservative white-identified Repubs hate more than an uppity negro is Hillary Clinton.
She turned her back on the party of her birth, was part and parcel of the Clinton years, and is basically like Democratic holy water to Republican vampires.
If it had even been rumored that he would offer her the V.P. spot, the backlash would have been tremendous. And she would never have considered it if she ever wanted to seriously run for President again.

He should have offered VP to Arnold. The only way for Schwarzenegger to become a Pres. :)
