I wasn't sure if it was a Western Electric phone at first, (BT was amazingly prolific http://bigjohnsf.livejournal.com/451654.html and seems to have had more styles of phones that Western Electric) but I poked around and it is... the model was called 'Telstar' after the communications satellite launched by Bell Labs in the 1960's. (I guess the phone might consider The Ventures recording to be its theme song.)
I'm curious if there are any markings on the bottom that suggest that it was marketed in the UK. (Or, did you bring it with you from the US?) As for the year, I think this phone was made in the 70's, but now I know it's a Western Electric phone (model 2911) the date of manufacture should be on the bottom in the form of M/YY.
